Mike Cooper

Mike Cooper, one of VAI's Affiliate Coaches, has more than three decades of experience across broadcast media and voiceover work, both in his native England and in America. His training has blended working with coaches, courses at institutions including London’s City Lit, and on-the-job learning with the BBC, ITV and Sky alongside his own self study. As someone who has worked on both sides of the control room glass, as talent and director, Mike takes an interest in the performance aspect of voice work as well as the technical and engineering side.

What He Offers...

Mike’s coaching style aims to demystify voiceover and help actors to get “out of their heads.” He excels at explaining things in a clear, no nonsense style while committing to always offering honest, transparent feedback and suggestions for improvement. He has worked with newcomers keen to put their best foot forward, to experienced voiceovers who need input from a fresh, highly tuned pair of ears. His unique perspective, as a voice talent working far from his native market and of long standing, will be invaluable to those looking input from a trusted voice of experience.

As A Voice Actor...

With a reputation for being a world-class sight reader - as well as something of a “one take wonder” - Mike works with clients on both sides of the pond across corporate, e-learning and commercial projects and more. He’s the narrator of countless television documentaries for the likes of HISTORY, National Geographic and Smithsonian Channel, and has spent years on air with both the BBC World Service and his local NPR station in Asheville, NC. Always with an eye on his next challenge, he began narrating nonfiction audiobooks in 2020 and has already recorded over sixty titles.
